Poe’s award-winning film The Way of the Kayak (see above) is an inspirational documentary celebrating the kayak and its amazing ability to roll upside down in the water, and roll back up again. Produced by Marie Poe, Richard’s wife and business partner, The Way of the Kayak has been featured in numerous film festivals.

I don’t do much public speaking, because it takes me away from my real work, which is writing. But, every now and then, I’ll take the podium, if the cause is right. Here’s a speech I gave in 2006, where I proposed renaming Times Square “Giuliani Square.” In three minutes, I got the crowd so riled up, they started chanting, “Giuliani Square!
