KENYANS FEAR ELECTION VIOLENCE IN 2012
Soros Network Denies Role in 2007 Bloodbath
FEBRUARY 16, 2012 — MANY Kenyans fear that the 2012 elections will bring violence even worse than the bloodbath of 2007. Violent youth groups and militias remain active in the country, fueling fears of electoral mayhem ahead. (1)
One of the leading organizers of activist youth in Kenya is George Soros’ Open Society Institute (OSI). Following Kenya’s December 2007 elections, Soros-funded activists demanded that the election be overturned. The country erupted into violence, leaving more than 1,100 people dead and some 350,000 homeless. Thousands were injured, tortured, mutilated and raped. (2)
In 2010, I suggested that the Soros foundation may have contributed to Kenya’s 2007 electoral violence, through its youth mobilization program. My allegations appeared in an article published in Glenn Beck’s e-mail newsletter. (3) Mr. Beck announced the article on the air, during his controversial “Puppetmaster” series on George Soros, which had a reported audience of nearly 3 million viewers.(4)
The Soros network in Kenya quickly responded to my allegations. On November 13, Binaifer Nowrojee, director of Mr. Soros’ Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA), told the Nairobi Daily Nation that the foundation “did not have any role in the violence.” The OSIEA sought only “to promote open society, democratic governance, human rights and free speech,” she said. (5)
On November 20, the Daily Nation published an op-ed suggesting that Mr. Beck had published my article in an effort to embarrass President Obama. “Mr. Soros was an early supporter of Mr. Obama,” the op-ed noted. (6)
